D-Zine Live Fan Chat 15th/16th November 2003
ModeratorA:
Hello Darren and Welcome
ModeratorA:
nice to see you!
Darren
Hayes: Hey Everyone..I'm very happy
to be here.
ModeratorA:
darrens_gal asks "Darren, what have you been doing now that
you've finished recording your album?"
Darren
Hayes: Exercising like a mad man.
It's killing me!
Darren Hayes:
Actually there is so much work to do..
once the music is finished there is a lot of set up.. from choosing a
photographer to deciding upon a video director.. then there's the
planning with the record companies around the world..picking a
single...deciding upon a plan
ModeratorB:
bubbles asks "Hi Darren, I'm 1 year away from achieving my
ambition of becoming a teacher. Do you have any further ambitions
within your musical carrerr or are you where you want to be?"
Darren
Hayes: I actually think I'm where I
want to be with my career.. certainly from an artistic point of view
this latest album is where I'd always hoped I could go..
ModeratorA:
*vegemite* asks "Darren, is there going to be a theme or hidden
message to this new album? Thanks! xx "
Darren
Hayes: There is definitely a theme
to the record. It's very clear. I don't think anything is hidden!
ModeratorB:
Jennfo asks "Emotionally what album was the most difficult to do
as a solo artist and are you going to tour the US"
Darren
Hayes: Without a doubt Spin was both
the most difficult and the easiest. There was so much pressure that
when I look back now I see... at the time I was just having fun but
in some ways I had my head in the sand.. this one..the latest one..
is the most emotional so in that respect it took me a long time to
give myself over to the writing process and just let it flow..
ModeratorA:
Bine asks "Darren, can you tell us few lines from your new
lyrics that give us a taste of the main topic of the album?"
Darren
Hayes:
It's about the relationship between dark and light...
ModeratorA:
Cathy_1 asks "My dear friend Minty just received her first
royalty cheque...she wants to know if you ever had a moment with your
first royalty cheque where you realised that maybe you could make a
living doing what you loved...a moment of relief? Exhileration?
Affirmation?..."
Darren
Hayes: Cathy... the first time I got
paid for making music I almost couldn't believe it. It was a bonus I
hadn't expected. Silly me!
ModeratorB:
Darrenoholic asks "Hi Darren! I saw your beautiful performance
for Delta Goodrem and I was wondering can you describe the feelings
that you had when you sang for her? Love Debby from Holland"
Darren
Hayes: Singing for Delta was one of
the highlights of my career so far. It was incredibly emotional. I
love that girl. She inspires and reminds me of what is important in
life.
ModeratorA:
catriona asks "Darren... as regards the new album... Since every
good experiment needs a catalyst ... was there any one defining
moment where you knew beyond a doubt "This is where I have to
take it... this is what I need to say?"
Darren
Hayes:
Catriona.. there was a moment.. I call it my zero.. when I hit rock
bottom. I was on a plane trip to Dublin sitting next to Leonie and so
many things were going 'wrong' in my life.. personal things no one
knew about as well as career hurdles.. and I remember thinking that
spiritually, physically and emotionally I had hit zero.. I wrote
about it in my diary.. so a lot of the record began from that
moment.. and then of course this beautiful thing happened as a
contrast to all the 'death' (and I don't mean that in a literal
sense) my best friend fell pregnant. So there was life and creation
staring back at me amidst my sadness..
ModeratorA:
mariacontesa asks "What are your happy thoughts? Like, whenever
you are feeling down, what do you think of to feel happy again?"
Darren
Hayes:
maria.. I just went for a run to the Golden Gate Bridge and back.. it
was incredible.. blue sky... air moving in and out of my lungs.. just
being alive and healthy and remembering that brings me back to
earth... I have to say that I know many of you will get the
impression this new record is dark.. but I'm happy.. and writing this
stuff was incredibly cathartic and liberating.. and there is a light
at the end..
ModeratorB:
fallen angel asks "Hi Darren Do you get bored on all those long
flights? What do you do to keep sane for 12 hours straight when youre
flying?"
Darren
Hayes: Oh my Lord do I get bored.
And my legs kill me ( I have circulation issues..). Lately listening
to the new record has been entertaining.. all I have to say is I'm
glad I don't have to fly to Australia in economy anymore or I would
have quit!! At least I can sleep.. some!
ModeratorA:
Ennael asks "Hi Darren, hope your doing well! I was just
wondering if we are going to hear any of your instrumental talents
(ie. piano or guitar playing) on your new album, something which I
can't wait to hear by the way!!!!! Love Leanne xxxxx "
Darren
Hayes:
I am really not a performer when it comes to musical instruments. I
played a lot of keyboard on the new record.. but that's easy because
I can press start and have another go.. on stage? Not sure. I wrote
one song on guitar and the rest keys so probably not. It's enough for
me to know I can do it for songwriting purposes.. but I'm a singer
first and foremost.
ModeratorB:
obi1K asks "How do u perceive famous ppl now that u became one
of them and is u"
Darren
Hayes: Fame. Interesting topic. I'm
hoping the first single will address that. If I get my way it could
be a song that kind of takes the piss out of what it takes to get to
the top.. Um.. I think it's a game and I've been reluctant to play it
most of my career.. but.. at the same time.. it's just a job.
Show..Business.. sometimes I think people take themselves too
seriously..eg.. 4 bodyguards.. but at the end of the day.. it gets us
all excited and into record stores at out to concerts.. so it's fun..
ModeratorA:
Janet A asks "I like to play games on playstation to relax what
does Darren like to do to relax?"
Darren
Hayes: I'm bad at relaxing. I guess
yoga is really the only thing that truly zones me out.. I mean if I'm
not working I love doing simple things like going to the mall..
seeing a movie... that makes me happy and chilled..
ModeratorB:
Truly Scrumptious asks "You once said that you need to
deconstruct your "apple pie" image to make certain types of
records. How far do you think the new album will go towards doing
this?"
Darren
Hayes: I think I did it. There's
always lots of talk about artists revealing their true self.. and in
a sense I think it's all been me.. just facets of me.. the last time
round I had to strip away everything that was me to find out what was
left. That went as far as growing my hair out and not coloring it
dark.. but it had more of a significance on a spiritual level because
I took a lot of heat for it and yet still survived. Now at least.. on
this record.. I feel I have nothing to lose. You, 'they'.. them.. no
one can take anything away from me in terms of my new album because
there is nothing 'they' have that I want anymore.. does that make
sense? It's as revealing as I can be and I've done so with pride..
ModeratorB: faith asks "Hi
Darren, Are you a good cook, when you have time that is? If so what
is your speciality?"
Darren
Hayes: I'm such a bad cook. I can
finally admit it. I'm terrible. Still I try. Salads are my thing. I
just bought the George Foreman grill and that's easy. Oh and I bbq
pretty good!
ModeratorA:
jedibabe asks "Hi Darren, which gives you the greatest emotional
release, writing a song or performing it? Thanks, love Jane"
Darren
Hayes: both jedi... writing a song
is like falling in love.. you don't know where it's going to take
you...
Darren Hayes:
performing live is the opposite.. I know
exactly where i'm going to take the audience.. only they don't
know... so it's equally thrilling
ModeratorA:
still be free asks "what is the best thing about being darren
hayes luv tracie"
Darren
Hayes: the best thing about being
me? Gawd. Just being loved so much by wonderful people and seeing
first hand the kindness of stangers. Being able to spoil people I
love.
ModeratorB:
MMR asks "Hi Darren, I love your intrepretation of cover
versions. Is it a conscious decision not to release these as singles,
even though they maybe more commercially recognisable?"
Darren
Hayes: I've always felt really
strongly about not releasing covers as a general rule of thumb
because I always wanted recognition as a songwriter. I love doing
covers live however.. and I'm happy to have released the songs I've
done in the past on charity records or bsides.. it's a way of paying
tribute to all those who have gone before us..
ModeratorA:
kes g asks "Were you worried about the intimacy of the To Close
For Comfort gigs, after the huge SG arena tours"
Darren
Hayes: Yeah I was worried I'd be
crap and you'd all know it!
Darren
Hayes: Just being so close to the
audience is something you can't fake.. you can't hide behind a good
light show or a costume or a scene cue... it's just you
ModeratorB:
kimi asks "i sometimes need a good cry due to emotions in my
life...i cry to ..i miss you...the most beautiful song on the
world......if you had a song to cry too....what would it be...and
why...xxxxx"
Darren
Hayes: ”Why”
by Annie Lennox
ModeratorB:
Daz-2003 asks "Hey Darren! This is Linda (Daz-2003) from Canada.
I was wondering how Wally is doing and if he comes into the studio
with you while you practice? And are you going to take him on tour
with you when you do go on tour? *hugs* we Love you! =)"
Darren
Hayes: Wally is adorable... he just
came back from obedience training and he's almost an english butler!
He'll come with me to London next year (I'm still trying to move
there for a bit) and on the road in the states if we tour...
ModeratorA:
Darmandi asks "You've obviously travelled around the world, Is
there anywhere that you would really love to visit that you haven't
had the opportunity to yet?"
Darren
Hayes: I've never been to New
Orleans and would love to go. Also Positano!
ModeratorB:
samantha asks "If you had to give up your singing career what
would you like to work as"
Darren
Hayes: I'd work at Starbucks.. I'd
work for George Lucas or I'd be a writer for film.. something
artistic (and yes I believe there is a lot of artistry in a good
latte)
Darren Hayes: haha
ModeratorA:
EllaB asks "How did you feel when you knew your new album was
finished?"
Darren
Hayes: Relief. Sadness. Joy.
Exhaustion. Elation.
ModeratorB:
Louisedarrenfan asks "Hey Darren! What has been your most
emotional experience whilst performing on stage? Best of luck with
your new album, missing you! Love Lou xxx"
Darren
Hayes: You know..most of the times I
sang affirmation on my last tour.. when I was singing those last 'oh
no's'... performing at the Olympics with Daniel just being amazed at
how far we had come... and recently singing for Delta
ModeratorA:
Gwendoline asks "will you be making an appearance at this years
Capital Christmas Live in London"
Darren
Hayes: I don't know. I know there is
still a lot of planning to do and this time round things are going to
happen with a little more thought and less of a 'bam pow bang!' if
that makes sense. We want to slowly build this one. If I am appearing
anywhere of course you'll be told..
ModeratorB:
Intellectual Breeze (Jen) asks "Hi Darren! Is there something in
life you have really wanted to do but haven’t done it yet...if
so what would that be?"
Darren
Hayes: I wish I could swim laps
ModeratorA:
ali asks "Will your next tour be at bigger venues or will you
still keep it intimate?"
Darren
Hayes: I'm sure it will start really
small... in a promo sense.. maybe tiny appearances.. maybe even a
support! The plan would be to have my own tour obviously at some
point..
ModeratorB:
*lucy* asks "Heya Darren!! Just wanted to know, how would you
describe your music to someone who'd never heard it before, in 5
words??"
Darren
Hayes: my new music? I've been
calling it modern. I really can't describe it. I certainly don't want
to define it! In the past..? Pure pop with heart and soul.
ModeratorA:
darrensdelight asks "Hi Darren , my question is can you name the
last three things you bought."
Darren
Hayes: last three things Darren
Hayes bought are a pair of headphones for my friend Robert to replace
his that I stole.. Finding Nemo on DVD and a Starbucks coffee
Darren
Hayes: Oh and an island
ModeratorB:
button asks "Hi. I was just wondering if when you listen to a
Walkman and sing along are you as out of tune as the rest of the
world or are you still pitch perfect?"
Darren
Hayes: I'm sure my pitch is fine..
but I'm probably as loud as the next guy
ModeratorA:
OnlyLonely asks "Hi! It’s Auli from Finland asking: What
sound turns you on? … inspires, that is =)…"
Darren
Hayes: Great question lonely...
lately I love the Goldfrapp album.. Madonnas last record.. new
basement jaxx... Damien Rice.. Lots of old Depeche Mode.. Felix Da
Housecat.. the band Phoenix.. Underworld's last record..
ModeratorA:
Dianne Scott asks "Your music and all that goes with it has made
a *wonderful* difference to mine and I know lots of other's
lives..does that knowledge make u happy?..I so hope so...Thank you
Darren xxx"
Darren
Hayes: Hey Dianne... it's a
beautiful thing when people connect with you through music.. and it's
incredible when music actually inspires people to get through hard
times..
ModeratorB:
Tracey_Emmas Mum asks "Firstly...Emma would like to say hello
and we would both like to thank you for giving us a magical moment to
treasure when you chose Emma (then aged 8yrs) to be your IMY girl at
Bristol in october 2002. My question........ With Christmas
approaching I have fond childhood memories of snow, the sound of
traditional carols in church and fairy lights twinkiling in dark
evenings from windows.......... being in AUS it must be quite
different....what special childhood memories of xmas do you have and
what makes you nostalgic? with love from Tracey and a huge hug from
Emma xx"
Darren
Hayes: Memories of Christmas to me
are of putting up the tree and decorating the house.. the build up
and lead into Christmas was always excruciating for me as a child.. I
could never sleep the night before... but in oz it's always
blisteringly hot so now snow globes for me I'm afraid..
Darren
Hayes: no snow globes is what I
meant to type..
ModeratorA:
gracie asks "Hi Darren, Gracie from Vancouver Canada. I was
wondering if your taste in music that you listen to has changed in
the past couple of years and if so, what type or types of music are
you listening to? Thanks "
Darren
Hayes: Hey Gracie.. I don't know
that it has as much changed as broadened.. as I mentioned above I did
start to really appreciate electro and french dance music as well as
artists like Damien Rice who are just so organic.. the blend of those
two elements turns me on
ModeratorB:
SpinSista asks "Hi Darren! If you were to write your
autobiography what would you call it and why?"
Darren
Hayes: I think I've already told
you. "My Hairstyles and Me. A trip down memory lane"
ModeratorA:
Elle-D asks "Hi Darren!..on a light note,( nothing pervy you
understand!) what are you wearing right now and where are you?! Lou x
u?"
Darren
Hayes: I'm wearing Calvin Klein long
pj's and I'm in my office
ModeratorB:
RubyD asks "Hi Darren! What was the best thing happened to you
in this year (except your brand new album)? With love from Tokyo. R"
Darren
Hayes: best thing that happened to
me? Hmm... it really would have to be making this album and becoming
a god father (not the marlon brando type the other one)
ModeratorA:
twid asks "As your music is very personal too you, how would you
feel if you wrote a song and someone else sang it, do you think it
loses something of the meaning when another person is involved"
Darren
Hayes: I just heard Clay's version
of when you say you love me and I smiled... chances are if I give it
up it's not that personal to me... so it's wonderful to hear someone
else do a song justice (which I actually think he did)
ModeratorB:
Darrensbigtoe asks "Hiya Darren from me......asking this
question on behalf of Sue J coz she's at work and missing the chat
again... Hi Darren, I love the name of your home recording studio
'Smuglab' Did the name come from the fact that you are very pleased
and self -satisfied with the results of what you have achieved there?
cos if so I think that's great!"
Darren
Hayes: One of my producers and I
were thinking of putting out an album under a similar name so that's
where the name came from.. and it's symbolic because the music we
were working on was intended to be very free flowing and 'not' me..
and in the end.. some of those tracks became the new album.. and the
beginning of a new sound
ModeratorA:
santa monica asks "Hi Darren....what's your favourite arcade
game from the 80's?"
Darren
Hayes: pacman
ModeratorA:
Nutsy asks "Hi Darren, I have a dog same breed and about the
same age as Wally, he's a total lunatic and I was wondering what you
find is the most endearing quality about the breed. Also I'd like to
wish you every sucsess with the new album. Take care of yourself "
Darren
Hayes: Hey Nutsy.. what I love about
English Cocker Spaniels is that they literally can't survive without
human love and interaction. They think they're human and they're
soooo emotional... if I've left wally alone for a few hours when I
come back there is not just a happy gretting but moans and cries that
would only be appropriate if he'd been tortured to near death..
ModeratorB:
Insatiablestell asks "Hi Darren! What I want to know is what's
the most wicked thing you've ever done and got away with until
now...'fess up!?! - Hugs Stella xxx"
Darren
Hayes: I can't tell you or they'll
arrest me
Darren Hayes: do
you think they're reading this?
ModeratorA:
Darren's doris asks "Hiya Darren! We all know you've done duets
with your backing singers as b-sides, but do you think you'd ever
duet with another artist (say... like... Dido? ) and release it as a
single? Love you and miss you LOADS! Sally XX"
Darren Hayes:
I'd sing a duet if the right person asked me to.. Dido would make a
lot of sense wouldn't she?
ModeratorB:
SandyC asks "Hey Darren Thanx for last year it was a blast!!! I
love talking into the small hours about 'life' whats your fave
subject to get into ??"
Darren
Hayes: Well I talk a lot about
purpose, intention and destiny.. karma.. those topics can get me
hooked
ModeratorA:
DazIWY asks "Hi Darren! Which was the most interesting city you
have visited? From Sijia Indiana"
Darren
Hayes:
I'd have to say Paris
ModeratorC:
~Terri~ asks "hi Darren .. can't wait till the new album.. my
question.. are you happy?"
Darren
Hayes:
I'm very happy at the moment. But not happy in a naive, blissful or
greedy way. I'm realistic and grateful for this point in my life. I
think the last few years had been a strugge for me personaly.. but
writing this record has brought me closer to forgiveness and
acceptance and also a sense of ownership over our own joy and
misery... It is no accident the things that happen to us and I am
content in that
ModeratorB:
Andrea aka Crazy 4 Darren asks "Hi Darren how are you? I have a
passion for mythical creatures, especially Unicorns, they fascinate
me. What or who fascinates you and why? xxx"
Darren
Hayes: I am fascinated by how women
can put makeup on especially eyeliner in the back seat of a moving
taxi
Darren Hayes: great
white sharks scare the crap out of and therefore fascinate me
also
Darren Hayes:
I guess ancient egypt does as well
ModeratorC:
dazzyshark asks "OK Mr Hayes. Fast forward five years: Are you
singing with Angels , dancing with the Devil or retired to a
monastery somewhere? Tell me where you see Darren Hayes in 2008?!
Lotsa Luv & Thx, xx Lia "
Darren
Hayes: Gawd.. I have no idea..
hopefully just healthy and happy and making records
Darren
Hayes: Cancing with the
devil!
Darren Hayes:
Dancing....errr.. rather
ModeratorB:
Misty Hayes asks "Hi Darren^_^ So what have you been upto in the
past few weeks since the ARIAs? Did you go see Obi while you were in
Aus? He He He thanks^_^ "
Darren
Hayes: I always see Obi when I'm in
oz. I am... HIS FATHER!
ModeratorC:
Spinner asks "Hey there, what would you like for Xmas...I'm not
buying...just curious :D"
Darren
Hayes: Um I want .... really there
isn't a gift I want.. I 'd like to just be with my family and I will
be so I guess I got my xmas wish
Darren
Hayes:
I'm very hard to buy for.. I have very specific taste and usually I
go out and get the weird, rare or interesting things you might thing
to get me... so most people have a hard time at birthday's or xmas
for me
Darren Hayes: I'd
like to be a better typist
ModeratorC:
Savage Suzz asks "Hi Darren! I've read that you watch a lot of
movies, and considered acting at one point. Is there any character in
any film or play that you think would have been particularly
interesting and challenging to have played? Thanks for doing this by
the way - Sue"
Darren Hayes: I would love to have
been in Moulin Rouge.. or anything by Richard Curtis (four
weddings..love actually)
ModeratorB:
Claire_UK asks "Do you think it is possible for an artist to
produce an album with a flavour of different genres of music e.g.
rock, pop or is there always a need to classify and if so does this
come from the public, the media or the artists themselves?"
Darren
Hayes: I think it comes from radio..
this expectation that you have to be one thing.. and then to a
certain extent the record company who need to get a handle on exactly
what they are selling.. that's why artists like Prince have always
struggled to be understood when they experiment...
ModeratorC:
Bimo asks "Hi Darren, I have recently been offered a place at
Brighton Institute of Modern Music to train as a professional
vocalist. Can you give me any tips for improving and preserving my
voice? Good luck with the new album, can't wait to hear it and
hopefully will see you on tour sometime soon! Tim Byron UK"
Darren
Hayes: The voice .. hmmm... don't
drink alcohol... drink lots of water.. obviously don't yell or talk
loud ever... don't talk on planes or in clubs where you have to yell
to be heard.. obviously don't smoke or be around it.. and just good
placement not just when you're singing but when you speak... most
vocal damage happens with the speaking voice not the singing one..
ModeratorB:
ClaireL asks "Thank you Darren for being the unique individual
you are....We as fans have many expectations of you (and especially
the new album!!), what do you expect of us, your fans??"
Darren
Hayes:
I don't expect anything from you.
ModeratorC:
Aideen asks "hi! I was wondering what do you think of the music
scene at the moment? thank you"
Darren
Hayes: Music at the moment is really
exciting. I think radio in the u.s is a little boring in terms of how
strict playlists have become.. but in general I think music is still
revolutionary and ass kicking
ModeratorB:
savage_melancholy asks "Hi Darren..simply love you're music
.What is it that you're now looking forward to in the future apart
from creating more music? "
Darren
Hayes: Most of my life right now is
focused on my career... in terms of seeing this album I love so much
get the best possible chance of finding an audience. It's going to be
a lot of work.. but I'm so proud of it.. I am looking forward to
making an amazing video.. having fun with my image and the
presentation... so that's what I look forward to
ModeratorC:
Darren's Skater asks "Hi Darren. I hope you are well. I took 3
skating tests this week and passed them all despite being extremely
nervous. So I want to ask you, do you ever get really nervous before
a big event? Love Nicki"
Darren
Hayes: Did I almost throw up with
nerves before the ARIAS? Um..hell yeah.
Darren
Hayes: I just wanted to say
something.. I really do love you guys so much and am very grateful
for your love, support and interest in my career. At the moment the
Sony site is really on a bit of a break until my new album comes
out.. so when Sony are updating and contributing to my site over
there we'll try to do a chat or something so that all my fans can be
involved in something as cool as this..
Darren
Hayes:
It means a lot to me that so many of you waited up so long and took
time out to be here today and I thank you so much!!
ModeratorC:
I_WISH_U_HEAVEN asks "hey thanks for chatting with us. In Santa
Monica what does the woman on the phone line say? its been bugging me
for ages"
Darren
Hayes: thankyou for calling
Disneyland
Darren
Hayes: We rang Disneyland and
recorded her voice
ModeratorB:
Ginger asks "Hi Darren, what is the significance of the purpley
colours (Violet, Magenta Feelings, Aubergine Girl) in your early
songs? Love, Ginge"
Darren
Hayes: purple is a mystical color to
me.. and also the color of SEXUAL FRUSTRATION
Darren
Hayes: ahhh
ModeratorC:
peggysue asks "Hi, Darren - My name's Jo. Can't wait to hear the
new album! I love all your music, including the B-Sides and other
extra tracks you have given us. I was wondering if we'll get chance
to hear some of these songs live. "Ride", for instance,
would make a great opener for a gig!! "
Darren
Hayes: I can't imagine ever doing
Ride live. I liked the energy of that song but to me it sounds like
I'm trying to be in nysnc! I was really just finding my feet writing
wise when I recorded a lot of those early bsies.. and I love them but
I don't think they represent at all where I went or am going..
ModeratorC:
Icklejess asks "Hi Darren. You and your music inspire alot of
your fans to believe in themselves and make the most of themselves,
so i just wondered who or what inspires you? Looking forward to the
new album, it's gonna be awesome! Luv Icklejess"
Darren
Hayes: you guys inspire me with your
love.. My Sister.. My Best Friend who just had a baby.. seeing that
kind of unconditional love and how much she gets up in the middle of
the night!! Surviors inspire me....
ModeratorB:
Gilly asks "Hiya Darren - thanks for doing this. If you had to
'save up' for something, what would it be?? Happy Christmas to you
and yours"
Darren
Hayes: Hmmm... I'd save up calories
and go on an eating binge at the movies with m&m's in my popcorn
ModeratorC:
Tina asks "I really admire how wide your vocal range is and my
hope is that you'll be taking us through many highs and lows -- both
vocally and emotionally. The richness in the lower register of your
voice is seldom heard and I was wondering if you are using it much on
the new album? Love ya heaps, Tina xxx"
Darren
Hayes: Actually my voice is a lot
lower on the new album...
ModeratorB:
Dense asks "What does Darren have on his keyring besides his
keys and why?"
Darren
Hayes: I just have keys. I used to
have a star wars lego man but wally ate him
ModeratorC:
Darrens Irish Darling asks "Hi Darren , in the 5th issue od
dzine it mentioned your mothers family are from Limerick , & I
was wondering where the Hayes part of your family come from ? thanx
love Siobhan xx "
Darren
Hayes: Also from Ireland but I'm not
exactly sure where. We were obviously criminals sent to Australia for
punishment so the details have been a closely guarded secret.
ModeratorB:
Ms.Starbuckz asks "Hey D, while in London have you been to any
of the celeb hangouts? If so, what are your thoughts on them?! thanks
Love Laura xox"
Darren
Hayes: Well I couldn't name one
celeb hangout so if I've bee there it's by accident. some of the
hotels I stay at have that reputation and I did do a lot of publicity
events last time I was there but in general it hasn't been my scene
so to speak...
ModeratorC:
darrensbeanie asks "Hi Darren - What's the best state of
mind/place you like to be in when you are writing songs? love Chris
xx"
Darren
Hayes: I am very dedicated when
writing songs actually... almost military like... when it comes to
the track and music.. but when it's time for lyrics I have to be
alone and in a very focused state of mind... late night helps..
ModeratorB:
darlena asks "Hi Darren, thank you for chatting with us today. I
wonder how you find new band members to replace them who leave you
mid touring or in the middle of promo?"
Darren
Hayes: It's not usually a drama... a
lot of the time you have alot of notice if someone is going to leave
or if you want someone to leave! There are not many jobs out there on
the scale of what we do so often it's a process of saying no to a lot
of people rather than begging!! I'm very lucky to have worked with
some incredible musicians and human beings so I'm very blessed in
that regard
ModeratorA:
Ok we have come to the end of a fantastic chat..thank you so much for
joining us Darren! We really appreciate it!
Darren
Hayes: It's been my pleasure. Thanks
again to everyone for waiting up and hanging around. I love you for
it and I can't wait to see you all soon..xxxxDarren
